Product Stewardship

As part of our commitment to product stewardship, the APMF together with our members led the initiatives that established PAINTBACK®.

PAINTBACK®  is a cost-effective solution for household and trade painters to remove unwanted paint and packaging, independently managed and run by PAINTBACK LTD. PAINTBACK® also funds research to find better uses for unwanted paint.

Hon Greg Hunt MP

Commonwealth Minister for the Environment
August 2015

I commend the Australian Paint Manufacturers’ Federation, and particularly the five founding companies, for your development of the proposed scheme. It is pleasing to see an Australian manufacturing industry taking such a proactive approach to its responsibility under the principles of product stewardship.

Hon Lisa Neville MP

Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water
August 2015

I’m pleased to see how the scheme has progressed and I congratulate you. This is testament to the strength of the partnership between industry and the Victorian Government.

Simon Corbell MLA

Deputy Chief Minister
ACT Legislative Assembly
August 2015

As a great supporter of extended producer responsibility I applaud this initiative by Australian paint manufacturers to better manage waste paint from both households and the trade sector.

Albert Jacob MLA

Minister for Environment; Heritage
August 2015

I congratulate the Australian Paint Manufacturers’ and its members on the work to date in developing the scheme. These efforts demonstrate the industry’s commitment to address the end-of-life impact of A&D paint. On 15 July 2015, I and other Environment Ministers endorsed the paint stewardship approach developed by the paint industry and congratulated manufacturers, master painters and major retailers on their work.

Close the Loop Limited

Close the Loop (CtL) is a small innovative, Australian resource recovery company that now employs over 200 people in Australia and the USA in the industry of product stewardship services for toners, inks, batteries, and cosmetics. We see the APMF proposal as a positive development for sustainability of the paint industry, job creation, and development of innovative new industries in Australia. Any ‘waste’ of significant volume and constant supply can be turned into a resource for other industries, and that is wat CtL is turning its R&D activities towards for water-based paint.
